Happy Easter

With Easter today I was reminded of a great South Park episode. The clip above is when Stan starts to question coloring Easter eggs. Classic clip. Enjoy everyone and have a happy Easter.

UNC Wins it

Photobucket

It wasn't much of a game to start with. UNC just dominated from the beginning. They set a Final Four record scoring 55 points in the first half. Ty Lawson set a tournament record with 8 steals, 7 in the first half. The second half MSU never got closer then 13. UNC won 89-72 to capture their fifth National Title. With MSU having 21 turn overs its almost impossible for any team to over come that and win. Wayne Ellington took the tournament's most outstanding player trophy. It was a good ending for a UNC class that came back to win a championship. It was also a good run for MSU, they just got beaten by a better team today.

Michigan's Time

Photobucket

Tonight is the National Title game and Michigan is excited. Even us U of M fans are excited for the Spartans tonight, and most of us are rooting for them. We root for them because its not just about MSU, its about Michigan. The Final Four has brought a lot of excitement to the area, and win or lose for MSU tonight, it is still a win for the state of Michigan.

I have a feeling if MSU wins tonight I may get a sensation of the chills. Something I never thought I would feel from my rivals in green. So the time is now for MSU, no longer are they playing just for their fan base and alumni, they are playing for every single one of us that has been brought down even just a little in the state of Michigan. GO STATE!!!!!!!!!

Big East Who?

Photobucket

Michigan State did what most ESPN analysts said was the impossible and pulled off a 82-73 upset of supposed powerhouse UConn. It was a great game to watch. It was very physical and I thought the refs did a good job. But the best moment came when MSU's Durral Summers dunked on UConn's Stanley Robinson. It was an awesome in your face dunk. By far I found it to be so far the play of the tournament. Now up next for MSU is UNC. I almost feel like it may be destiny for MSU to win, but the UNC players have so much NBA talent on there team, and most of there players came back this year to do one thing. Win a championship. Its is going to be real tough for State, but you never know in the tournament.

Check the dunk out again, its worth watching over and over.

The Time is Here

Photobucket

Well the Final Four is now set to tip off tomorrow night. The first game will be Michigan State and UConn. Even though I would like to see Michigan State lose because of the blue in me. I do kind of have a soft spot for them right now because of the excitement of them being in the Final Four has brought to the area. I am still torn on who i will be rooting for in that game. The second game of UNC and Villanova I am just rooting for a close game, because UNC has a good chance of running away with that one early. Hopefully both the games tomorrow are classic tournament games that come down to the wire. Should be a good night of basketball.

Go Ahead & Retire

Photobucket

When the Pistons traded for Allen Iverson many people including myself thought that Joe D made another good move. Since the trade we have all been proven wrong. For the Pistons to work as a team the best option is for Iverson to come off the bench. After a few games coming off the bench, this is what Iverson had to say to reporters last night.

“I’m in a position now that I’ve never been in my whole life,” Iverson said. “It’s harder than I thought it would be. With the back injury, I have to sit out at the start, then go in, then sit again. It’s tough to really get going. I take my hat off to the guys who can come off the bench and be effective. It’s tough for me. I’m struggling with it.”
“I’d rather retire before I do this again,” Iverson said. “I can’t be effective playing this way. I’m not used to it. It’s tough for me both mentally and physically. If I’m able to go out there, I should be able to get it done and I can’t right now. It’s my fault. I have to be able to overcome the adversity and do what I have to do. I just have to find a way to get it done. Not being 100 percent makes it harder and you can see that I’m not 100 percent.”

Well the way I see it is. Go ahead and retire then Allen. If your still injured then we don't want you to start. And if the injury is that bad then why did you come back? All I know anymore about Iverson is I don't care. He is a selfish player who only looks out for himself. I really wish things could have worked out for him in Detroit, but he continues to be difficult to deal with wherever he plays. He is not the same 27 year old superstar he used to be. Eventually he needs to understand it takes a team to win.

After these comments hopefully Iverson is done as a Piston. Rumor has it that the Pistons are looking to bring Sheed of the bench too. I hope the Pistons are just tanking the last few games to try and make the draft lottery rather then the playoffs. There is no way the Pistons will win anything this year. They have a better chance of winning the draft lottery then winnings a 1st round playoff series. I know Joe D has big plans for the upcoming summer. With all the cap space the Pistons will have available after this year it shouldn't be long before they return back to a powerhouse in the East again.

Who Knows

Photobucket

No one seems to know where Jay Cutler is going to end up. I would personally love it if he was to get traded here to Detroit. The problem is there are many teams that seem to be in the running to get him. The one team that bugs me is the Redskins. How do they always seem to be in the mix for everyone. They have already loaded up for next year this off season, so i don't understand where they seem to keep finding money. The other teams interested are the Jets, Bucs, Bears, and a long shot Panthers. All the teams have a chance since they all have a decent first round pick, and that may be all it takes to get Cutler. They will probably have to throw in a second round pick too. With the picks them Lions have they could easily get Cutler if there willing to give up the 20th pick and there early second round pick. I really hope the Lions make a good effort going after Cutler, and from what I have heard on the TV and radio lately they are trying to keep themselves in the running. It would be a nice start to the Swartz era to land Cutler, and if the Broncos are actually mad at Cutler for acting the way he has, then there is no better revenge for the Broncos then to send Cutler to the worst NFL team of all time, the Detroit Lions.

A Short Break

While we await Tigers opening day, the Final Four, and the Pistons and Red Wings playoffs we have kind of a couple days off from sports. I was recently searching the web when I ran across this picture of Old Tiger Stadium. At first I thought what a beautiful picture it was. Then the more i looked at it the more I realized the picture is really sad. The stadium is now left with just a corner of it standing. That's when it hit me that Tiger Stadium is Detroit.
If you look at it there are many similarities between the two. Both the stadium and the city have been falling apart for years. They both are just a small part of what they used to be. But the biggest thing they share is the need of money to stay alive. If the auto industry(more specifically GM and Chrysler) doesn't get another loan its probably not going to be long before there gone. And if the Stadium doesn't get the 15.5 million it needs to be preserved then its going to be gone soon too. I guess all good things must come to an end at some point, but neither one of these needs to be now. I really wish people not from Michigan could see the way the recession has effected us. Over 11% unemployment rate right now and climbing. There is no work here without the auto industry, it literally drives the city and state.
I guess I get frustrated when these politicians go on TV and say screw the auto industry because it doesn't affect their state. The Pledge of Allegiance says "one nation". Doesn't that mean anything anymore? We as Americans need to help each other out no matter what industry it is. No one should have to lose their job because the company they work for couldn't get some help. Everyone needs help at one point or another. We seem to give everyone else money to stay alive. So why not the auto industry? I'm really not sure why.
All we can do now is hope for the best and prepare for the worst, because I hate saying it but I believe the worst is yet to come.

Welcome to Detroit

Photobucket

The Final Four is now set, and to my relief Blake Griffin will not be a part of it. I must also eat my words a little cause I said MSU wouldn't make it, and they sure proved me wrong. MSU is going to have a tough time beating UConn, but the way they have played lately and the home crowd behind them, I would not be shocked if MSU won it all. The other game is North Carolina versus Villanova. Hopefully a good game, but I think UNC is way too good for a small Villanova team. So even though my predictions have not been right lately I am still going to throw my two cents at this one. I like MSU playing UNC in the national title game and even though I would love to see a championship for the state of Michigan right now, I just think UNC is too good.

Maybe I Overreacted

I was a little upset after watching Michigan lose to Oklahoma the other day and maybe my post had a little bit of anger in it. And for that I apologize. Now tonight I just finished watching Oklahoma blow out Syracuse on there way now to the Elite Eight and what Blake Griffin did at the end hitting his head on the backboard was pretty sweet. I will give the guy some credit cause he is a great college basketball player, but i still dont see him doing anything in the NBA. Anyway I still liked the dunk so i put it on youtube. Check it out.

Zebras Run The Game

Photobucket

I love how the NCAA referees treat Blake Griffin like he is Michael Jordan. It was obvious to tell that the NCAA wanted Oklahoma to advance in the tournament. The refs were not calling an even game. They had no problem putting Michigans best players in foul trouble early and throughout the game, but when it came to Oklahoma they could do no wrong. I am so pissed about that game. If Oklahoma would have won with an even called game then I wouldnt complain, but that was just bullshit. So whatever I guess the NCAA got their wet dream of Oklahoma in the Sweet 16. There is always next year for the Wolverines, but this game should have been alot closer then the final score indicated. As far as Griffin goes, he is one of the dirtiest players I have seen since Charles Oakley. He is a piece of crap player that will only be good in college. Go to the NBA Griffin and you will be the next Shawn May anyways.

Hell Yeah Manny!!

Photobucket

What a game Michigan put us fans through on the opening night of the tourney. No matter how ugly the game may have been down the stretch for Michigan, i will take a tournament win any day over pretty play. Michigan should have wrapped the game up with a few minutes to go in the game, instead the Michigan players kept going for the knockout 3 ball and let Clemson get right back in it. I give clemson alot of credit for fighting hard when they could have easily just conceited defeat down 15 points with 5 minutes left in the game. Clemson fought back and got within 2 points when Manny Harris got aggressive and drove the lane for a good old fashioned 3 point play with just seconds left to help Michigan get there first NCAA tournament win in 11 years. Manny came up big with 23 points 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Lately Sims has been the man for Michigan, but with just 9 points and 3 rebounds against Clemson, it was on Manny's shoulders to carry the load for Michigan. So now Michigan will face the nation's best player in Blake Griffin and the Oklahoma Sooners. They will need alot better performance from Sims this game if they hope to contain Griffin and the Sooners. Hopefully the local man know as Grand Blanc Pride or Zack Gibson can give fits to Griffin on defense and Sims can regain some late season form on offense. So if Michigan can get another great game from Manny and maybe some help from Sims and contain Griffin, then they got a chance.
Prediction: Michigan 73 Oklahoma 65

Making Moves

Photobucket

Well the Lions finally have made there first big move of this offseason. With the Lions sending Cory Redding and this years 5th round pick to Seattle for Julian Peterson. Overall is seems to be a good trade for Detroit. It gives the Lions a leader on defense and a leader in the locker room. Peterson may be on his way down in his career, but he is still better then anything the Lions have now. Also, getting rid of Redding was a good thing since he was the most overpaid defensive lineman ever (thanks Millen). I think this may affect the upcoming draft. With getting Peterson the Lions may stay away from Aaron Curry. Hopefully the Lions dont waste the 1st pick on a QB. If they dont want Curry, then they should work on improving the offensive and defensive lines. Maybe the Lions will get lucky enough that Jay Cutler will piss off the Broncos so much they trade him to Detroit, but i know the Lions and they are not that lucky.

Suck This, Were Dancing

Photobucket

It was a big day for anticipation for all Michigan fans on Sunday during the NCAA Selection Show. And of course the show decided to make Michigan fans wait til the end to hear their spot in the tournament. A number 10 seed for Michigan, and playing the number 7 seed Clemson Tigers. Should be a good matchup for Michigan as long as they can shoot like we know they can. And with the two studs Manny Harris and Deshawn Simms playing well as of late I wouldnt be surprised to see a second round upset of Oklahoma. Overall I am expecting another memorable NCAA tournament, hopefully with Michigan making some noise. So my picks for the final four are Louisville (sorry Sparty, no hometown final four for you), Memphis, Pitt, and North Carolina. I like Pitt winning the National Championship against Louisville.

Walter the Great!!

I know the pistons have been playing a little bit better lately, but how do they beat Orlando twice, beat Boston, and yet lose to Atlanta and the Knicks. Even though it has been a real up and down year for the pistons, there has been one bright spot...Walter Hermann. What else can you say about this guy other then just entertaining. He may not be able to jump, he may not be real coordinated, but he makes up for all of it with some good old fashioned hustle.

Just Like Dr. J??

Exact opposite of Dr. J!!

Poll Results Are In!

Thanks for all the lazy bastards who weren't too lazy to click on which GM of the four pro sports teams in Detroit they would want to run their team if they had one.

Here were the results:
Joe D - 15 votes
Ken Holland - 16 votes
Dave Dombrokski - 29 votes WINNER
Matt Millen - 2 votes

I'm glad both Mr. Ford and Mr. Millen himself are both regular visitors to my blog, because we all know they are the only people who would want Millen to continue on with the rain of terror he has caused for Lions fans, no offense (I only have so many readers and don't want it to go down to 3 from 5).

I find it pretty funny that DD was the GM picked by most because of what everyone thought the Tigers would be doing this year with his off season moves. The Tigs better get it going soon so you voters don't look like idiots. I still think the Tigs will be fine and the division is playing horrible with them only 3 1/2 back.

As for Joe D. and Ken Holland, their teams are right where everyone expects them to be, in the hunt for a championship! I really think the Wings will for sure win it all and the Pistons will make it to the finals have a tough series against the Hornets with them pulling it off in 7.

Tigs are on tonight against Boston and hopefully they can get a win streak going to get back to the .500 mark.

I have not decided what to do the next poll on so if you have any ideas please email or make a comment about what you think would be a good one.

Here are some great pics of the mans/ping pong room over at Dreamers house. Nice.

Get Your Tickets to Ford Field!

Like clockwork the NCAA tourney has lived up to the hype and provided upsets, buzzer beaters, and college atheletes crying on the hardwood once again. I hope your bracket are still doing well, still have my final 4 teams and thats it. I'm ready for the next round to start I really think it will be the most entertaining of all of all the rounds and all the matchups could go either way.

Lots of sports news over the weekend with the HUGE contract given to Cabrera. This is a great move by DD as usual and most experts see this contract as a bargain in the future years to come. I'm also really happy that this means the Tigers will be able to add another player to the Hall of Fame if he keeps on doing what he has done his entire career, hit lights out! Opening day is right around the corner and all Tigers fans should be excited to see what this team is capable of.

Also in news that is making the headlines across the nation today, the mayor of Detroit (Kwame) has been charged with plenty of felonies to earn his stripes behind bars. Listening to the radio and reading the papers here it seems everyone is more than happy this is taking place and he can't be found guilty fast enough. The mayor looks to finally be able to reach his goal as the ultimate hip-hop/rap mayor if found guilty. You know the street cred will go far in many other major cities becasue thats what most of them look for when voting for a person to run there city. I can't tell you how great it is that KK is being charged with these crimes and can only hope that the Detroit voters can learn from the mistake they made in giving him the keys to the city in future votes.

Now for a few vids that Beautiful Dreamer thought would help the next round of the tourney get here faster.

Kids love to be in the wrong place at the right time1

Funny kid basketball

This one looks like it hurt a bit

Volleyball

The worst is when you have already let your guard down

Funny Penalty Kick

Finally, after talking about players crying after losing in the tourney I had to post this priceless piece

NFL draft coming up soon so I know Beautiful Dreamer will have his two cents to say about it. We will both be picking who the Lions should pick, will take despite our endless pleads, and who the can't miss player in the draft will be.

At Least We Got Football

Posted by Beautiful Dreamer

Well Saturday was kind of a shocker when the Michigan Wolverines basketball team beat Penn State. It used to not be the norm to see Michigan losing on a consistant basis, but times have changed and we stand at 6 wins and 17 losses right now.

It doesnt look to be getting any better in the future as well.Maybe this is a transition year with John Beilein coming in, but with the previous 2 Mr. Basketball players in Manny Harris and Deshaun Simms on the team why are they so bad? It may be that the 15 year old Fab Five still is big enough in Michigan to recruit from the state, but unlike Michigan State who not only gets good players from the state of Michigan, they also get 5 star recruits from around the country. I am not quite sure when Michigan Baskeball will be able to be a contender in the Big Ten again, but i know this.

There is a better chance of Michigan State football getting better then the wolverines, then the Michigan basketball team getting better then the spartans. Neither one looks likely to happen anytime soon.

Can Millen Make The Right Choice?

Posted by: Beautiful Dreamer

With the NFL draft just a few months away I was wondering what Matt Millen might do this year to piss me off even more then in the past. So I have come up with a few situations in the draft and my prediction how Millen will handle it.

1) Baltimore takes Kenny Phillips the bad ass safety from Miami (cause they need no offensive help), leaving the door open for the Lions to take 6'5" Limas Sweed, the stud WR from Texas. We all know Millen cant pass up a sure thing.

2) The Bears make the biggest mistake of the franchise by passing on Andre Woodson (QB Kentucky). And one pick later the Lions draft Limas Sweed, forcing many fans in Detroit to start saying....New England Who?

3) Denver Broncos take Limas Sweed to compliment Brandon Marshall. The Lions have no choice but to take Desean Jackson the speedy WR from Cal to ensure that winning 10 games next year is a for sure thing.

4) Detroit trades the 15th pick and Roy Williams to Miami for the number 1 pick. Detroit does the obvious and drafts Limas Sweed to guarantee themselves a future hall of famer.

We all know that Millen will find a way to anger us more then he has in the past, so be prepared to see many great players taken after the 15th pick. Players like Oregon RB Jonathon Stewart, Kansas CB Aqib Talib, Illinois RB Rashard Mendenhall, and Florida DE Derrick Harvey. At least 2 of those players will be available to Millen when it's his turn to choose, but those are key needs for us!! No, that's not how we draft. So everyone welcome the newest member of the Detroit Lions.......Limas Sweed.
