Almost Time

I know the NBA and NHL finals are both still going on right now but to me it seems both those series are already over. The Wings will probably close out Pittsburgh in game 6 Tuesday and the Lakers now with a 2-0 lead will probably win in 4 or 5.

So with hockey and basketball about to come to an end it got me to thinking about some fantasy football. I am very excited for fantasy football because I have Matt Forte in 2 keeper leagues and I expect a lot out of him this year.

So I found a video of some insight for next season and I thought you guys may enjoy it, cause it's never too early to start talking fantasy football.

Cry Baby Crosby

The Wings have started this Stanley Cup just like they did last year winning the first 2 games at home. Another convincing win, and another Crosby crying show.

The Wings went down 1 in the first period but rebounded to score 3 unanswered goals throughout the rest of the game. The one thing that makes me mad about game 2 is the fact that Malkin got an instigator penalty which should be an automatic 1 game suspension, but of course the NHL loves Pitt and would not let them lose there best player for game 3.

Kudos to Zetterberg for beating the crap out of Malkin after Malkin came at him with his stick (I guess the NHL didnt see that).

Game 3 is tomarrow and Detroit plays good on the road, I am predicting a 4-2 Detroit win and 2 boxes of tissues for Crosby's tears at the end of the game.

Rematch

The Red Wings took out the Blackhawks in OT last night. Helm came through big last night with the game winner and with some excellent penalty kill. Now its time to focus on the Penguins. Game one starts Saturday with game two Sunday.

I don't really expect a much different outcome from last years finals. I believe the Wings are better then last year and the Penguins have not changed much at all with the exception of losing arguably their best player from last year Hossa.

I am going to predict the Wings in 5. I think the overall skill on Detroit is just way too much for Crosby and friends.

Game 1: Easy

Well game 1 of the Wings Blackhawks series went just about how I thought it would. The game really wasnt close and I never got as nervous as I did during any of the games against Anaheim. Detroit won 5-2 and Chicago tried to play a wide open game which really favors Detroit. But how about Dan Cleary, after finishing the last series with the game 7 winner, he adds 2 goals against Chicago today.

The series should only take 5 games I believe. Chicago may steal one at home but I dont think you will see anymore then that. Go Wings!

On a side note the Tigers are looking good this weekend. After a rough series with the Twins the Tigers bounced back with a 3 game sweep of Oakland and moved back a top the Central Division.

Keyboard Cat So You Know

Ok, so the debate will be settled tonight about if Datsyuk is better than Ovechkin. Ovechkin did at least have a goal but once again he needs more around. If Datsyuk scores the winning or any goal that leads to a victory he will then be put above Alex on the totem poll of NHL players.

The Wings will need to make sure to skate like they can because they will then get the penalties and chances to take out the ducks. They can't get into the crap after the plays and muck it up, that's what the Ducks want them to do because it brings them down to their level.

Maybe in the end it will be the guy who is overshadowed by everyone but keeps bringing his lunch pal to Joe Louis. The same guy who has been the blue collar worker on other championship teams and still has some blue workers in the Motor City playing him down. Yes Chris Osgood it is time for you to shut them up again, granted he is 1-3 in game sevens, but he has been here before and will be the difference maker in this one. Will be fun to show them once again why you should go to the HOF.

Ok now for keyboard cat. The cat is put into videos to make things funny when they otherwise might not be. You will be seeing more of him as it eventually encompasses the inter webs with the force of the Swine Flu. Here is an example:

Who's Better?

I was with a couple friends the other night watching some hockey when the two of them starting arguing over who is better, Ovechkin or Datsyuk?

I personally think that Ovechkin is better right now just by numbers. I think Datsyuk is awesome also, so I am kind of torn. Ovechkin is way better offensively, but Datsyuk is way better defensively. Ovechkin is just OK on defense, but Datsyuk is pretty damn good on offense.

If you look at it from a offensive/defensive stand point then the two are pretty even. When you look at it from a points stand point Ovechkin is way better. Just over these playoffs Ovechkin has 10 goals and 7 assists in just 11 games, while Datsyuk has 1 goal and 3 assists through 9 games.

I see so many different point of views on this argument and I really don't know which way to lean sometimes. That is when I realized how dumb an argument it is. Ovechkin carries his whole team while Datsyuk is not asked to do that, so until Datsyuk has to carry a team and win by himself then we can't compare. Not to take anything away from Datsyuk but he has much better supporting cast then Ovechkin.

If Datsyuk concentrated on scoring then he could possibly be known as one of the best scorers ever, but that's not who Datsyuk is. He is probably going to spend his career in Detroit and never have so little talent around him that he would have to do that. And if Ovechkin concentrated on being better defensively then I would bet he could be known as one of the best defensive forwards. He wont get that opportunity either cause Washington needs him to score to win.

Another Datsyukian Deke?

Time for the beards

With the playoffs right around the corner and the Wings starting to shape up into playoff form, so do the playoff beards. This just tells you what type of people hockey players are. Sure the Spurs do it in the NBA but are they constantly getting stitched up for a puck to the face or rubbed all over by a sweaty glove? No, that shit is tough, I can't even think about shaving if I let my hair grow out for more than three days without a few tears shimmering down my check and these guys are getting 15 stitches and right back in the next period?

Ah but I'm not here to talk about just beards, the Red Wings are also going to make another run at Lord Stanley this year with a chance at back to back titles. For me the only other sport that is harder to go back to back is the NFL, but hockey playoffs still provide some great upsets and no team is safe. No, not even the Wings.



It is pretty easy to look at what it will take for the Red Wings to win again, goal tending and defense. These both have been the focal points of worry by fans and myself. I do however see the wings getting into the swing of things at just the right time. Even before a game the captain Nick Lidstrom said he thought this team was in better shape than at the same time last year.

With Hossa, Franzen, Zetterberg, Daytsuk, and many other offensive threats the Wings will be able to score. The outcome of the game however will largely depend on how the defense plays.

In short, with the coach we have and leaders who have gone through the beards for so many years now the Wings will have more than enough to get a consecutive title. It won't be easy and there will surely be a hot goaltender or two who give them a difficult time. Osgood will step up and show that once again the fans can talk and talk, but he will do it with his play.

Eat Em Up Tigers, Eat Em Up, Eat Em Up

Lookout for the Tigers! Glad to see them come out and get some runs after a blowout the other night. I really believe that Cabrera is going to really get it going for the second half of the season. The biggest key for the Tigers, as with any MLB team, is for their starting pitching to step up and keep the runs low. Minor, Robertson, and Rodgers will be the main reason the Tigers do or don’t make a push towards the division lead.

Still hearing rumors that the Pistons are interested in both Josh Smith (sign & trade) and Ron Artest. Don’t really know how strong of interest the Pistons have in either one but both have the Pistons trading away Prince to acquire either player.

No More Vacation

I wouldn't really call it a vaction but I took a little break from updating my blog here and there. No worry I'm ready to get back posting my usual crap. Look for a new post in the next few days with more to follow. Also congrats to the Red Wings on another cup! There is no reason the wings shouldn't be able to get it again in the following years.

I also think Michael Curry isn't that bad of a hire after the Pistons found there way out of the playoffs with that horrible game 6. I know many want Avery to come and coach the Pistons, but when I look at what he did with the Mavericks it doesn't impress me much. He was able to get to the finals but they lost, so why is he such an upgrade over Flip?? You say because he is intense and gets up off the bunch and shouts, so what to that. Michael Curry is Joe D's choice and in Joe I trust.

What a great night for a Detroit sports fan. The Pistons come back home to hopefully take over the series against the nagging 76ers. The Wings go out to Colorado and can shut the door on any chance of the Avs cup run this year, and the Tigers start a series with everyone favorite team to hate, the yanks.

It's days like these that make my GF get pissed off, so I'm glad she'll be up north so she won't be bitching at me. I think all three teams will win tonight and everyone in the D will rejoice for one great night of sports.

Anyone Sick of That Fox Promo Yet?

Between switching back and forth from the Tigers, Wings, and Pistons games on Foxsports and Foxsports Plus I'm ready to shot that idiot in the head. Yes its April in the D and we all are happy we get to see the games, but show me a few big breasted women in the background not a Tommy Lee wanna be with Lyrics that I could make better with an hour on the toilet.

It is nice though to have both the Stones and Wings in the playoffs as the Tigers begin playing like they were supposed to, two weeks after the season started. I think the Pistons we make easy work of the 76ers, but they might lose one just because we all know how laid back they can get when not challenged. The Wings will win tonight by 4-1 and McCarty will have a hat trick, GUARANTEED!!!

After my last blog where I aske for fans of the Tigs to pray the cats have gone on a roar going 2-2!! We're back, I hope. I really hope last nights game is the turning point of the season, but everytime the tigers win one they lose the next.

Last night the Red Wings were also looking to go up 3-0 in the series versus the hillbillies, but they sat back and got too defensive and Dom let an easy one it. No worries here though, the Wings have played against the Preds tight all year and come out on top in pretty much all of the games. Hopefully the wings can play 3 full periods in the next matchup and not lie down after they think they have it in the bag.

Ah as for the Predators fan base of toothless goons, they are all over the web acting like they have just won the series even though they are still down 2-1. I can't imagine all of the webbed feet offsprings that would be consumated if they were to ever win the cup. They actually through a Catfish on the ice which doens't make to much sense with any kind of hockey tradition.

The Preds are the typical new fan base of a team that hasn't earned anything since they've been in the league, but act like they should be respected. What should I respect them for, the way they are able to put two double wides together on a hill and not have them tip over? It is always funny when one fan base thinks they know a sport that they don't even play in their state, let alone have ever played in their life but want to be conisdered knowledgable about the sport. Having fun getting beat by the Wings hicks!!

Its Just Snow People

I still don't understand why Michiganders can't seem to drive when it snows four or five inches. It never fails that people continue to land in the ditch and rear end everyone when it snows out. We Michiganders should be the best at navigating through the white stuff but continue to dissapoint. Now that I'm done ranting, the wings are on tap tonight to take on the Sharks. What is up with MSU basketball by the way?? I'm not a state fan, but I thought they would at least be a top ten team this year. They have proven me wrong and continue to lose on the road against ranked opponents. Drew Neitzel has to be slamming his face into the wall about as much as he is clanking the iron right now (a lot). He has lost a lot of money this year, hope he has learned some french while at MSU because he will be going over seas as soon as this year ends.

Well the Wings didn't make any big moves on the last day of trading in the NHL, but were able to add a decent defenseman that we did need. With our best player Lidstrom coming back soon with a few others I can see the Wings being just fine and returning to early season form. I'm also glad they didn't mortgage the future for a rental player of one year that doesn't guarantee you a cup. I think the biggest thing for the Wings will be the play of Zetterberg and Daytsuk. They must return to the form of early in the season for this team to make a run.

The big story of the day is that the great Sean Salisbury will be leaving ESPN. You can find the story here. I didn't like Salisbury that much at the beginning of his career but eventually came to think he was a decent football analyst. He is also known for putting pictures of his wang on his phone and showing it to the ladies, so he gets props for being a funny dumb ass.

I always wondered what would happen, to those guys that bounce on trampolines and dunk the ball at halftime, what if they bounced to hard? I don't have to do that anymore because this guy below has answered my question. Thanks man!

I was suprised in how many people voted for the wings and glad to see it. In the end the winner was the Tigers who may have one of the best lineups in the history of baseball. Each team got a lot of votes and it just goes to show that Michigan is one of the best sports states and will support any team that plays here (just look at the Lions). Hopefully a few of these teams will also be able to bring home a championship as well this year.

Some Kind of Awesome

Here they are Detroit!! Not only are the Red Wings the hottest team in the NHL and on a record pace, we also have three starters on the All-Star team.

To me the most amazing thing about this team is that ever night somebody is able to step up and help this team to another victory. In last nights victory over the hated Avs the two players to step up were Datsyuk and Hasek.

Next game it could be Hudler, Osgood, Holmstrom Zetterberg, Lidstrom, etc.. I have never seen a team that has so many players that can do so much on both sides of the puck every night.

The one thing that worries me from past years experience is injuries and facing the hottest goaltender in the playoffs. It seems like ever year the wings always draw a goalie who has an out of body experience and sends the wings packing. Hopefully this year we our the team with the hot goalie(s) going into the playoffs and can finally say that this is the new era for the Red Wings with Zetterberg and Datsyuk. We will then be able to put Yzermen, Shanahan, and the other legends that have recently worn the winged wheel behind us to make way for the new legends that may someday have their numbers retired as a Wing.
