New Guys in Town

Not even 18 hours into NBA free agency the Piston's have landed 2 of the best available free agents. Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva.

It looks as though by signing these 2 that the Pistons may have to do some trading in the off season, but maybe not. Charlie is capable of taking Rasheed's spot and Gordon should be able to take on what A.I. couldn't do and that's come off the bench.

Both players are younger and add more athleticism to a Pistons team that was lacking the go to the hoop young guy's. Ben and Charlie were both on the 2004 UConn National Championship team and know how to play well together so that should help quite a bit.

So we are looking right now at a starting line-up like this: PG Stuckey, SG Hamilton, SF Prince, PF Villanueva, and C Kwame Brown. With new comers Gordon and Daye coming off the bench should actually improve the Pistons. If they are also able to re-sign McDyess then it just adds to the depth they already have.

I am not sure if this brings the Pistons back to the brink of the NBA finals again, but after last season this can only help.

Time For Change

"Never again will I allow us to be in a position where we're dealing with issues, where we're dealing with drama." That is a statement made by Pistons GM Joe Dumars to the media after the pick Gonzaga's Austin Daye.

I was a little skeptical of the pick of Daye at 15 for the Pistons when I felt like they were lacking a true point guard and Ty Lawson and Jrue Holiday were still available. I guess I am still skeptical of the pick, but in Joe D we have to trust. The only problem I really have with Daye is he is very similar to Tayshawn Prince. Does this mean Prince may be going away soon? I hope not, of anyone on the current Piston's roster he caused the least amount of what Joe hates. Drama.

It was nice to hear Joe come out and say what he did. Last year's Pistons team was impossible to watch at times, and it was easy to tell they had no chemistry left. It was a good run for the past 6 years, but it is time for a change.

The Pistons used the 35th pick to get DaJuan Summers from Georgetown. I saw Summers play a couple of times this year and he is a very athletic kid with a lot of upside. With the 39th pick Detroit went with Jonas Jerebko from Italy. Don't know about the guy, but i don't like Joe's past of drafting foreign players. Detroit took Chase Buddinger with the 44th pick then traded him to Houston for a 2nd round pick next year.

I find it really hard to grade a team's draft class before any of the players have played an NBA game. It usually takes about 2-3 years before we really know for sure who the studs and busts were from the draft. If I had to give it a grade right now I would say a B. I give them a B because they did get younger upfront and that's what they wanted to do. And anytime a GM is able to do what he wants, then it is a good draft for now.

Here's a little highlight video of Austin Daye.

Detroit Basketball....................

Yeah they are pretty bad these days? Don't worry too much though. Joe Dumars probably didn't think things would go this bad, but it is a long term plan he had in the first place. Like everything and everyone these days they want change and right away and if that doesn't happen, dispite being a long term plan, everyone has a bitchfest. I'm willing to take a beating for a year or two if it does result in getting two big Free Agents, as everyone is hoping. Just don't be suprised if it doesn't happen.

Yes there will be a load of FA's but if you take a look back at history it will show you that maybe 20% or so of those big name FA's will sign with another team. A big reason has to do with the more money a player is able to make in resigning with his team. Compare that to getting less money and having to move to another location. I do trust that Joe D is a capable enough GM to get the job done and the Pistons will be back battling in the confernce finals once again. I know it is hard to wait but do we really want more years of being the Conference Final losers? Or do we go out and get guys like Bosh, Boozer, Manu, or Amare Stoudamire who can bring back the attitude of "Going to Work"?

We will sadly have to keep praying for this year and hope that this plan is what was needed to bring back the Pistons to elite status in the NBA.

Cool vid my friend got of the Pistons game the other night.

No More Vacation

I wouldn't really call it a vaction but I took a little break from updating my blog here and there. No worry I'm ready to get back posting my usual crap. Look for a new post in the next few days with more to follow. Also congrats to the Red Wings on another cup! There is no reason the wings shouldn't be able to get it again in the following years.

I also think Michael Curry isn't that bad of a hire after the Pistons found there way out of the playoffs with that horrible game 6. I know many want Avery to come and coach the Pistons, but when I look at what he did with the Mavericks it doesn't impress me much. He was able to get to the finals but they lost, so why is he such an upgrade over Flip?? You say because he is intense and gets up off the bunch and shouts, so what to that. Michael Curry is Joe D's choice and in Joe I trust.

If Only All Nights Had This Much Great TV

What a great night for a Detroit sports fan. The Pistons come back home to hopefully take over the series against the nagging 76ers. The Wings go out to Colorado and can shut the door on any chance of the Avs cup run this year, and the Tigers start a series with everyone favorite team to hate, the yanks.

It's days like these that make my GF get pissed off, so I'm glad she'll be up north so she won't be bitching at me. I think all three teams will win tonight and everyone in the D will rejoice for one great night of sports.

Whats Up With The Pistons?

I'm not to worried about the recent skid the pistons have been on ever since their loss to the Celtics a few weeks back. I figured I would put up a few videos that any Detroit fan would appreciate and get fired up about.

The first one is an introduction of the bad boys back in the day. The second video is a mix of Bill Laimbeer the original "Bad Boy". Maybe if the pistons start getting angry and playing at the level of intensity Laimbeer brought, we can win it all this year. The last video is a mix of the championship run in 2004, the music is NSFW just in case. Hope you enjoy.

Here is the video tribute to the bad boy himself Bill Laimbeer. If you don't watch the whole video at least go the 1:48 mark, best part of the whole video.

Remember that the music to the below video is NSFW.

Poll Results for Favorite Detroit Team

Thanks to everyone who got on Joe Cullen Drive-Bye and voted for your favorite Detroit team. Here are the results from the 51 most knowledgable sports fans in the WORLD!!!!

Red Wings - 16 votes (31%)
Lions - 12 votes (23%)
Tigers - 17 votes (33%)
Pistons - 6 votes (11%)

I was suprised in how many people voted for the wings and glad to see it. In the end the winner was the Tigers who may have one of the best lineups in the history of baseball. Each team got a lot of votes and it just goes to show that Michigan is one of the best sports states and will support any team that plays here (just look at the Lions). Hopefully a few of these teams will also be able to bring home a championship as well this year.
