Tigers still getting by

The Tigers are still managing to somehow stay a float in their division dispite their recent struggles on the road and at the plate. Hopefully they can get it together soon because the White Sox seem to be ready to leap over them. Which brings us to the video.

Click on the video to read the clip and learn more, the horse was ok with a few minor injuries.

Jordan vs. Bird

I think we all remember the crazy McDonald's commercials from back in the day. Off the building, off the little baby, off the shot clock and so on. Well if you were to make a golf commercial of the sort this would be the one shot that would be played.

Lucky bastard! Hopefully with the Buick Open in town for the last time the golfers will be able to make some amazing shots for everyone to remember.

SHAQ ON RAW

I saw this clip of Shaq on Raw last night and thought it was pretty funny. Jericho throws out a nice line when he brings up Kobe. Shaq is always so entertaining.

He Will Be Back

Not Long after Michael Vick was released from home confinement he was conditionally reinstated to the NFL. NFL commissioner Roger Goddell announced yesterday that Vick will have the opportunity to be fully reinstated by week 6 of the season. It sounds like he wants to make sure he doesn't get into any trouble or nothing else surfaces like it did with Pac Man or Plaxico.

I for one am excited to see if Vick plays again. You can hate all you want on the guy, but you have to admit he is one of the most exciting football players we have been able to watch in the past 10 years. I believe he has served his time and deserves another chance. So this is the last you will hear about Vick the criminal from me (unless he does something else). When i mention Vick from now on it will be about football.

If you are interested in what ESPN's John Clayton has to say about Vick go HERE

Here is a clip of Vick that I call one of the best runs ever.

Good Stuff

Awesome day for the Tigers today sweeping the White Sox in a double header. Great game one by Verlander with a complete game giving up just 1 ER. There is no need to celebrate yet with 2 more versus Chicago this weekend then a 3 game set with the Rangers. The Tigers need to come out in these next 5 games with 4 wins and take control of the division.

I decided for the weekend to throw up some good videos to watch. So check them out.

Dog Days of Summer

With sports news so slow right now it seems the football chatter has picked up right were it left off. Every fan across the country is getting there fantasy football picks for a draft over going over countless articles to get you just another day closer to the opening kick.

While going over some Michigan videos I managed to check out a few of the great Bo Schembechler. What a motivater he was. Even if you're not a UM fan he just had a way about him that anybody could appreciate as the head coach of a big time program. He really cared for his players and it showed back throughout his life and after his passing. They don't make em like they used to.

Come On Now Pac-Man

Well Adam Pac-Man Jones is back in the news again. It seems a video tape of Jones at the strip club the night 3 people were shot has surfaced.

Through out the video you can see how dumb Jones was acting. He is throwing around money and apparently was carrying around 40,000 dollars. The thing I noticed from the video is that ESPN says that the club manager tried to take Pac-Man's bag with all the money in it and he was one of the guys who got shot, and he is paralyzed from the waist down. Jones is going to testify against some guy he claims he saw shoot.

The more I hear about Pac-Man and the things he has done makes me believe he had more to do with the shooting then we know. If he was involved he will get caught and he deserves to get caught if he was.

I would love nothing more to believe Pac-Man when he says he is trying to lead an upstanding life. Now though I just don't know who to believe. We only know the person the media portrays, we don't know Jones as a person. That's why I am kind of torn to make a judgement.

Some cool things from the video though are Nelly, just cause he sang #1 and that's a bad ass song. Also Jermaine Dupri is in it, and i was like "I thought he fell off the face of the earth when Kriss Kross did". Dupri sure does seem to think he is a big shot in the video though.

Fantasy Football Advice

With Fantasy Football right around the corner it got us at Detroit Drive-Bye wondering what we were going to do for our fans.

First we decided to make our own Fantasy Draft Cheat Sheet. The plan is to finish the Cheat Sheet and have it ready for anyone to print off by August 1st. Sometimes finding that easy to print Cheat Sheet is not that easy, and who wants to spend 8 dollars on a magazine now a days. So keep an eye out for it on here and we will have it up as soon as we finish.

The second thing we decided to do is offer our Fantasy Football advice. Draft questions, keeper questions, and sit or start questions. Pretty much anything you are looking for a second opinion on we will help you out. Both myself and K-Philly are very knowledgeable when it comes to Fantasy Football so anything you may want to know just e-mail one of us and we will give you a response within 24 hours. Just label the e-mail "Fantasy Advice". Our contact information is in the right collumn.

Feel free to contact us throughout the entire season because we know how it is when you have a couple players to decide on starting and just want a little advice.

Good luck to everyone in their Fantasy Drafts and we look forward to hearing from you.

Top Dunks Of 2009

This is a top 10 video of the best dunks from the 2009 NBA season. It's a pretty good list but I think the dunk by Josh Smith at 6 is better the one they put at number 2. And the dunk by Westbrook at 10 is better then that. Of course LeBron got number 1, but it is a pretty impressive dunk just because the Hawks are pretty much pulling him down. The dunk I would like to see at number 1 is that dude from Xavier dunking on LeBron. That's right those tapes disappeared.

He Will Be Missed

Another life was taken away too early this weekend when just retired NFL superstar Steve McNair was murdered in is apartment Saturday morning.

When I heard the news of his death I was shocked. As a kid Steve was one of my favorite players. From the time he joined the NFL his toughness and ability to win games on pure will drew me to respect and admire his game.

I remember being upset when the Titans lost the Super Bowl in 1999 because I wanted McNair, George and Kearse to get a ring. Steve was never able to get a ring, but he is one of those players who changed the game almost by himself.

McNair was just one of those NFL players that was just fun to watch. He will be missed by all who knew him and all those who knew of him. From everyone at Detroit Drive Bye our thoughts and prayers go out to the McNair family. Especially his 4 children and wife he had to leave so early.

I saw this video of McNair's retirement. It honestly gave me the chills listening to him talk about spending time with his family. A nice tribute.

New Guys in Town

Not even 18 hours into NBA free agency the Piston's have landed 2 of the best available free agents. Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva.

It looks as though by signing these 2 that the Pistons may have to do some trading in the off season, but maybe not. Charlie is capable of taking Rasheed's spot and Gordon should be able to take on what A.I. couldn't do and that's come off the bench.

Both players are younger and add more athleticism to a Pistons team that was lacking the go to the hoop young guy's. Ben and Charlie were both on the 2004 UConn National Championship team and know how to play well together so that should help quite a bit.

So we are looking right now at a starting line-up like this: PG Stuckey, SG Hamilton, SF Prince, PF Villanueva, and C Kwame Brown. With new comers Gordon and Daye coming off the bench should actually improve the Pistons. If they are also able to re-sign McDyess then it just adds to the depth they already have.

I am not sure if this brings the Pistons back to the brink of the NBA finals again, but after last season this can only help.

Time For Change

"Never again will I allow us to be in a position where we're dealing with issues, where we're dealing with drama." That is a statement made by Pistons GM Joe Dumars to the media after the pick Gonzaga's Austin Daye.

I was a little skeptical of the pick of Daye at 15 for the Pistons when I felt like they were lacking a true point guard and Ty Lawson and Jrue Holiday were still available. I guess I am still skeptical of the pick, but in Joe D we have to trust. The only problem I really have with Daye is he is very similar to Tayshawn Prince. Does this mean Prince may be going away soon? I hope not, of anyone on the current Piston's roster he caused the least amount of what Joe hates. Drama.

It was nice to hear Joe come out and say what he did. Last year's Pistons team was impossible to watch at times, and it was easy to tell they had no chemistry left. It was a good run for the past 6 years, but it is time for a change.

The Pistons used the 35th pick to get DaJuan Summers from Georgetown. I saw Summers play a couple of times this year and he is a very athletic kid with a lot of upside. With the 39th pick Detroit went with Jonas Jerebko from Italy. Don't know about the guy, but i don't like Joe's past of drafting foreign players. Detroit took Chase Buddinger with the 44th pick then traded him to Houston for a 2nd round pick next year.

I find it really hard to grade a team's draft class before any of the players have played an NBA game. It usually takes about 2-3 years before we really know for sure who the studs and busts were from the draft. If I had to give it a grade right now I would say a B. I give them a B because they did get younger upfront and that's what they wanted to do. And anytime a GM is able to do what he wants, then it is a good draft for now.

Here's a little highlight video of Austin Daye.

Diesel to the Cavs

Well the horrible relationship between the Suns and Shaq is finally over. The 38 year old center has been traded to the Cavs in hopes of another title run with Lebron. The Cavs really didn't give up much for the future hall of famer, Ben Wallce and Sasha Pavlovic.

Sure this gives the Cavs even more star power than before, but is it enough for Lebron to get past the Magic, Celtics, and Heat come next year? I really think the Celtics may make a few moves before the season. With Danny Ainge being the man to make the changes you never know, years of being called the worst GM followed by a title after swinging deals for Allen and KG. We will see.

I don't see the Cavs winning next year once again, last I checked they were still located in Cleveland and we know they will find a way to blow it yet again.

The move for the Suns will free cap space for either a resigning of Amare or one of the big name free agents in the summer of 2010. I guess Shaq and Nash didn't get along at all, and one of them had to go.

With one of the worst draft classes in recent history being picked tonight this will still be the stroy of the day. Everyone knows Blake Griffin will be a Clipper and that is really all you need to know.

Maybe it's just me, but in recent years I have grown to detest the NBA and especially the finals. I can't stand watching player after player go to the line for tic tac calls and the refs trying to make a name for themselves. I used to be a big fan of the NBA when they let you put a body on somebody, but now it is so weak and lame. All you need to do is turn on the last two minutes of the game because you know it will be close for some strange reason? Hmmmm.........

I don't have an opinion of Shaq one way or the other but this clip is pretty good.

Also I saw this the other day. It is Norm MacDonald when he hosted the ESPYS awhile ago. Man that guy has some balls on him, but he is just putting out what a lot of people think but are afraid to say. It is a little longer clip but well worth the time. I still get a laugh at Griffey and Mark Messier being so offended by Norm, classic!

Top 5 Idiot Wide Receivers of the NFL

5). Plaxico Burress -

"Don't bring a knife to a gun fight", the old saying goes. This would hold up for most people on the Earth who understand a gun, Plaxico Burress would be that exception to the rule. How stupid did he feel after shooting himself in the leg? Plaxico has so much God given talent and barely seems to put much effort into getting better.

He never seems to show up for practice, yes PRACTICE, and if he is on your fantasy team you know how his status is doubtful for the entire season. Yet when he steps on the field he is a game changer and always seems to pull off some of the most amazing catches. You're a great player Plax, but an even bigger idiot for shooting yourself in the leg and probably getting some time in the pen for it.

4). Chad Johnson/Ocho Cinco -

On the field I can't get enough of his antics, but to change your name and still not be in the top 100 of jersey sales? I would have to get some serious $$$$ to change my name like I'm sure many others would. To also change your name to a number is just ridiculous, not surprising that Chad would be the one to do it. I could see Chad Fire breather or Chad Happy Feet, but to go with a number that you think is cool because it is in Spanish is lame and dumb in my book.

Chad also gets dumb points for his threats about not attending camp or holding out. Chad you're not a good enough player to act that way.

*Chad can get off of this list if he is able to get in the top ten of NFL jersey sales*

3). Matt Jones -

If only Matt Jones put as much into working on football and getting better as he did his criminal life he would be in Honolulu every year. Jones was drafted out of Arkansas to be a WR for Jacksonville, after he played QB in college. This was a shock to many who thought he was a risky pick, which it turned out to be.

Jones has had a rough year after being arrested last summer for felony possession of a controlled substance. Here is a little more from wikipedia:

The police found a plastic bag filled with six grams of a white substance that tested positive as cocaine and a jar with possible marijuana residue. Officers questioned Jones and he acknowledged the white powder was, in fact, cocaine, the report said.

Jones then went on to test positive for alcohol, violating his probation and putting his plea deal at risk.

Jones is so high on the list because he has to know that bringing drama to any team is only worth how good that player is, Jones is not worth any drama at this point.

2). Brandon Marshall -

3 years in the league and Marshall has become a familiar name for both his on and off field antics. Just yesterday Marshall demanded a trade from the Broncos after having surgery on his hip in March. Sure Brandon, teams are just lining up to take a guy who isn't at 100%, has been in trouble with the law for violent crimes, and seems to only care about himself.

OTL did a report on Marshall:

Here is a link to Brandon's Wiki page - LINK

It seems pretty crazy how much trouble he has been in and always seems to get a good plea deal out of it, the power of a good lawyer I guess. Here is one paragraph that caught my eye:

According to an article published in the Rocky Mountain News on July 28, 2008, Douglas County deputies fielded "about 11" calls to Marshall's home since January 2006. The article stated that one one call resulted in Marshall being arrested (the March 26, 2007 domestic dispute), and some did not involve him at all.[47]

Also calling out Joey Porter and not backing it up, isn't good for street cred.

I can imagine Marshall being one of the bigger superstars in the league if he is able to get around better people and able to control his temper. Until he realizes that and sees that he could be making more money if he falls in line and just stays out of trouble, he will continue to be number 2 on this list.

Also here is a link to the latest rumors on Marshall being traded - LINK

1). Donte Stallworth -

Just after signing a new contract Stallworth decided he needed to be some where in the early morning hours after a night of drinking. Sadly Stallworth hit a man who was trying to cross a busy street and catch a bus. He was then charged with Manslaughter.

Today he reached an agreement with both the court and family to avoid any future civil $uit. That means he lost a boat load of money in lawyers, to the victims family, and in wages.

Here is a recent article today on SI that details the terms of the agreement which are pretty tough and lengthy.

Stallworth will hopefully enjoy his freedom after the 30 days of jail because he sure paid a hell of a lot for it.

Hopefully all these players listed will have better days ahead of them and be able to make names for themselves in positive way going forward.

Hope you enjoyed the list and if there is somebody you think should be on this list please let me know in the comments.

A Tale of Two Horses

With the basketball and hockey season coming to a close the sports world turns it's attention to the diamond. The Detroit Tigers currently are out in front by 3 games over the Twins in the Central Division. The Twins have one of the best managers in Ron Gardenhire who can play small ball with the best of them and always seems to be able to get his team to make a late push at the end of the season.

The Tigers are 6-4 in their last 10 games which isn't that great until you look at the other teams in the division who have played at or below .500 in their last 10. For the Tigers to continue to stay on top they will have to improve in both their offensive production and relief pitching/Willis.

The changes that Dave Dombrowski made in the off season seem to be working well up until this point of the season. Edwin Jackson, acquired in via trade, may be the best off season move by any team. He currently has a 6-3 record with an ERA of 2.24 (5th best in the Majors). Then you have the additions of SS Adam Everett and C Gerald Laird who have brought their experience and good defensive play with them. Add in the speedster that is Josh Anderson and the Tigers have a whole new dimension to their team when he is on base or in the outfield.

Then you have the main man Justin Verlander who is taking the mound tonight. Verlander looks to have finally made the next step in his career after a few rough outings to start the season. He was the pitcher of the month for the AL in April and currently has a 7-2 record with an ERA of 3.02 (18th best in the Majors), which has been inflated because of the few bad starts. Verlander is making a run for the Cy Young along with Zach Grienke of the Royals and Roy Halladay.

There is also the Magglio Ordonez situation. If the Tigers play him X number of games this year they will also be on the hook for 17 million next year. To put it mildly Ordonez is not putting up numbers worth 17 million. There has been rumors of a release and them going after Adam Dunn, which I think would be a great move. I really like Ordonez but this is a business and the smart move to do, with how much attendance has fallen and the current economic conditions, would be to let him go unless he really turns it up in the coming weeks.

The Tigers will need to keep getting brilliant performances from both Jackson and Verlander to stay on top. Mix in the good outings by Rick Porcello and they have a great 1-2-3 combo along with the 4th best fielding percentage in the league at .989, and the Tigers should still be there at the end to battle with the Twins.

And because I haven't put up any funny videos lately here is a recap of some of the better ones over the past week.

NBA CHAMPS

I am a Detroit fan through and through, but there is one team that I follow almost as much as the Pistons in the NBA and that is the LA Lakers. I have always been a fan of LA since Kobe came into the league and today we have to give Kobe his props.

A lot of people said Kobe couldnt win with out a Shaq, but last night Kobe proved them all wrong. Congratulations to Phil Jackson on title number 10 also.

There was one thing that bothered me from them game and it was when it already ended and I think it was Mike Turico who said that "Derrick Fisher may not be a Hall of Famer but it important to this Laker team." I thought that was crap, if Robert Horry is considered a Hall of Famer then why not Fisher. Both players had great players to play with but both have also made huge shots that have helped guide there team to an NBA championships.

Either way Congrats to the Lakers and the city of LA on their 15th NBA championship.

Here is a clip of the celebration.

Almost Time

I know the NBA and NHL finals are both still going on right now but to me it seems both those series are already over. The Wings will probably close out Pittsburgh in game 6 Tuesday and the Lakers now with a 2-0 lead will probably win in 4 or 5.

So with hockey and basketball about to come to an end it got me to thinking about some fantasy football. I am very excited for fantasy football because I have Matt Forte in 2 keeper leagues and I expect a lot out of him this year.

So I found a video of some insight for next season and I thought you guys may enjoy it, cause it's never too early to start talking fantasy football.

Cry Baby Crosby

The Wings have started this Stanley Cup just like they did last year winning the first 2 games at home. Another convincing win, and another Crosby crying show.

The Wings went down 1 in the first period but rebounded to score 3 unanswered goals throughout the rest of the game. The one thing that makes me mad about game 2 is the fact that Malkin got an instigator penalty which should be an automatic 1 game suspension, but of course the NHL loves Pitt and would not let them lose there best player for game 3.

Kudos to Zetterberg for beating the crap out of Malkin after Malkin came at him with his stick (I guess the NHL didnt see that).

Game 3 is tomarrow and Detroit plays good on the road, I am predicting a 4-2 Detroit win and 2 boxes of tissues for Crosby's tears at the end of the game.

Rematch

The Red Wings took out the Blackhawks in OT last night. Helm came through big last night with the game winner and with some excellent penalty kill. Now its time to focus on the Penguins. Game one starts Saturday with game two Sunday.

I don't really expect a much different outcome from last years finals. I believe the Wings are better then last year and the Penguins have not changed much at all with the exception of losing arguably their best player from last year Hossa.

I am going to predict the Wings in 5. I think the overall skill on Detroit is just way too much for Crosby and friends.

Give him another shot!

Michael was released from prison to serve the remainder of his sentence from his home due to the over crowdedness of Virginia prisons.

Vick still needs to get reinstated by the commish, but I believe he deserves another shot to play in the NFL. Many people everyday are released from prison with the hope of having a second chance in society. Michael did the time he was sentenced to and now deserves another chance to do what he is good at. That is being an NFL quarterback.

I know a lot of people will disagree with me, but as someone who has been through the legal system, I believe everyone deserves a second chance but maybe not a third or forth. We will have to wait and see what happens in this story over the summer. Hopefully everyone that has hated Vick so much since the dog fighting can look past it and understand he has served his punishment. And hopefully Vick has turned a new leaf and is ready to be a new man.

Game 1: Easy

Well game 1 of the Wings Blackhawks series went just about how I thought it would. The game really wasnt close and I never got as nervous as I did during any of the games against Anaheim. Detroit won 5-2 and Chicago tried to play a wide open game which really favors Detroit. But how about Dan Cleary, after finishing the last series with the game 7 winner, he adds 2 goals against Chicago today.

The series should only take 5 games I believe. Chicago may steal one at home but I dont think you will see anymore then that. Go Wings!

On a side note the Tigers are looking good this weekend. After a rough series with the Twins the Tigers bounced back with a 3 game sweep of Oakland and moved back a top the Central Division.

Hey Stand Right There

So your telling me that there are people who have seen Charles Barkley swing a golf club and yet stand in front of him before he does it? This just shows that even with the money to have Tigers golf coach, some people just aren't cut out for certain sports although they may be a hall of famer in another.

The fun ensues now

Keyboard Cat So You Know

Ok, so the debate will be settled tonight about if Datsyuk is better than Ovechkin. Ovechkin did at least have a goal but once again he needs more around. If Datsyuk scores the winning or any goal that leads to a victory he will then be put above Alex on the totem poll of NHL players.

The Wings will need to make sure to skate like they can because they will then get the penalties and chances to take out the ducks. They can't get into the crap after the plays and muck it up, that's what the Ducks want them to do because it brings them down to their level.

Maybe in the end it will be the guy who is overshadowed by everyone but keeps bringing his lunch pal to Joe Louis. The same guy who has been the blue collar worker on other championship teams and still has some blue workers in the Motor City playing him down. Yes Chris Osgood it is time for you to shut them up again, granted he is 1-3 in game sevens, but he has been here before and will be the difference maker in this one. Will be fun to show them once again why you should go to the HOF.

Ok now for keyboard cat. The cat is put into videos to make things funny when they otherwise might not be. You will be seeing more of him as it eventually encompasses the inter webs with the force of the Swine Flu. Here is an example:

Who's Better?

I was with a couple friends the other night watching some hockey when the two of them starting arguing over who is better, Ovechkin or Datsyuk?

I personally think that Ovechkin is better right now just by numbers. I think Datsyuk is awesome also, so I am kind of torn. Ovechkin is way better offensively, but Datsyuk is way better defensively. Ovechkin is just OK on defense, but Datsyuk is pretty damn good on offense.

If you look at it from a offensive/defensive stand point then the two are pretty even. When you look at it from a points stand point Ovechkin is way better. Just over these playoffs Ovechkin has 10 goals and 7 assists in just 11 games, while Datsyuk has 1 goal and 3 assists through 9 games.

I see so many different point of views on this argument and I really don't know which way to lean sometimes. That is when I realized how dumb an argument it is. Ovechkin carries his whole team while Datsyuk is not asked to do that, so until Datsyuk has to carry a team and win by himself then we can't compare. Not to take anything away from Datsyuk but he has much better supporting cast then Ovechkin.

If Datsyuk concentrated on scoring then he could possibly be known as one of the best scorers ever, but that's not who Datsyuk is. He is probably going to spend his career in Detroit and never have so little talent around him that he would have to do that. And if Ovechkin concentrated on being better defensively then I would bet he could be known as one of the best defensive forwards. He wont get that opportunity either cause Washington needs him to score to win.

If you got an opinion about it give us a comment. If you are still torn check out these videos to compare.

My buddy likes to call him "The Sniper"

Another Datsyukian Deke?

MEGATRON

Photobucket

We are hopefully about to begin a new era of the Detroit Lions. We have all been just disappointed during the Matt Millen era, but Millen did one thing right during his tenure here. He drafted Calvin Johnson. We hope Calvin is here for many years, but that all depends on how things progress over the next few years. I put a few videos of Megatron up here for all of you. Enjoy!

Here's the best play of the 2008 season for Detroit.

That Looked Bad

Dwayne Wade took a hard hit from Josh Smith tonight but still keeps on playing. It looked like he hit his head pretty hard, but apparently not hard enough cause he was back in the game a few minutes later.

Louis Delmas??

Photobucket

I thought this year was going to be different. I thought this draft was going to be the one to turn it around for Detroit. I was wrong! The worst defensive team in the NFL did not help themselves at all on that side of the ball. For some stupid reason the Lions passed on Rey Malaluga twice and took Brandon Pettigrew at 20 and some safety from Western Michigan named Louis Delmas at 33. I was shocked when they drafted both guys over Rey. The Lions did nothing today to improve their team. It is going to be another long season next year. I would swear Matt Millen is still making picks for this team. This has been one of the saddest days I can remember as a Detroit Lions fan. It almost seems like the Lions organization is just laughing at us fans. I don't think I can take this crap anymore from them. Overall I am giving them a D+ for a draft grade. The only reason its not an F is because Stafford isn't a bust yet.

Stafford's a Lion!!

Photobucket

The Detroit Lions have made their decision on the number 1 pick. Quarterback from Georgia Matt Stafford is now a Detroit Lion. He signed a 6 year 78 million dollars deal with 42 million guaranteed. I want to complain about the choice but the pick is already made and I now have to hope Stafford is in that 40th percentile of Quarterbacks that are drafted early and succeed. Coming from the same high school as Bobby Lane gives me a little hope. I have seen some bright spots in Stafford's game, but he still has a lot of work to do if he is going to become a Pro Bowl caliber quarterback. The Lions still have 2 more picks in the next 32, so I will be rooting for defense from here on out. Well Detroit.....Lets welcome Matt Stafford.

Remember Penny

I don't know about anyone else out there, but for me growing up Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway was one of my favorite players. I was watching the Magic blow the game to the 76ers the other night and I noticed a fan wearing a Penny jersey and it just brought back some great memories. Check out these videos, I'm sure you'll like them.

Impressive

I know I have been hard on Matt Stafford, but after seeing this video I was impressed. I Still don't know if he is what Detroit needs, but more stunts like this and I may consider not being that mad when they draft him.

NFL DRAFT TIME

Photobucket

The NFL Draft is now just 10 days away. Here in Detroit there is a lot of debate over who should be the number 1 pick. There are people who want the Lions to take Matt Stafford to try and have the Matt Ryan success of last year. What a lot of people don't understand is the Falcons picked up a lot of help for him in the last off season, and not only that but if you look at the games the Falcons lost last year they were against good defense's and Ryan couldn't handle a better then average defense. Mark my words when I say, "Matt Ryan's rookie year was a fluke." So Lions please don't draft Stafford, I just don't see a winner in him.

There are only 2 other choices for Detroit, and both of them I have no problem with. First is offensive tackle Jason Smith from Baylor. He is a real solid lineman and I would love to see him wear the Detroit Honolulu blue. Now if I was making the pick I would draft Linebacker Aaron Curry out of Wake Forest. Some people say we need a middle linebacker now and Curry plays outside so it wouldn't work. I say our defense was ranked 32nd last year and if Curry is the best defensive player available this year then go get him.

Photobucket

If Detroit decides to go the Stafford route then there will be some good available defensive players at the 20th pick also. But wouldn't it be nice to maybe take Curry at 1 and then Rey Maualuga at 20. If they did that then Detroit would be on their was to having a top tier defense.

Anyway you look at for Detroit this year is going to be tough. The schedule came out this week and win number 1 this year may not come til about week 8. Hopefully the Lions see that quarterback is not what we need now and we need to build from the inside out first. But it is the Lions so I can almost picture it now...... With the number 1 pick in the 2009 Nfl draft, the Detroit Lions select...Michael Crabtree, wide receiver Texas Tech. I'm just kidding, but if it happened I wouldn't be shocked.

Spring Game

Here is a clip of a TD run by Carlos Brown during today's spring game for the Wovlerines

Sounded like it was a great time and about 40,000 fans or so were there with a huge supply of great recruits as well. Hopefully the weekend will lead to a few commitments and turn the event into something everyone really looks forward to.

Also from what I've gathered Tate Forcier was tearing it up and still impressing. Throwing some great balls and a few TDs the offense looked very different from last years. Even though it is a scrimmage, it shows that he is able to do what was advertised and gives me faith that RR is doing things right.

Why So Mad Miguel?

I hope those balls Miguel Cabrera keeps crushing get a nice resting stop on a mantle somewhere so they can recover from reentry. In his first 5 games this year he has managed to hit .611 with 3 HRs and 10 RBIs while helping the Tigs lick their wounds from the first series against Toronto. At this pace Cabrera could become the all time leader in HRs and has only a career average of .320!! Most power hitters are known for their all or nothing power but Cabrera breaks that mold and seems to be able to put the ball in play with every at bat.

GM of the Tigers (Dave Dombrowski) has received criticism in the past few years as the Tigers have not lived up to their billing and players such as Jurgens blossoming into a great player. Yeah that sucks, but how do you quantify that against the acquisition and long term contract of 25 YEAR OLD sure fire Hall-of-Famer who may end up with some of the greatest numbers of all time?

As long as Cabrera keeps putting this team on his back and staying in the division race, Dombroski won't have to think about those bad decision's. He can sit tight knowing that yeah he made some bad choices, but damn it how many other GMs can say they acquired a player as young and talented as Cabrera coming into his prime?

The best is yet to come Detroit.

Time for the beards

With the playoffs right around the corner and the Wings starting to shape up into playoff form, so do the playoff beards. This just tells you what type of people hockey players are. Sure the Spurs do it in the NBA but are they constantly getting stitched up for a puck to the face or rubbed all over by a sweaty glove? No, that shit is tough, I can't even think about shaving if I let my hair grow out for more than three days without a few tears shimmering down my check and these guys are getting 15 stitches and right back in the next period?

Ah but I'm not here to talk about just beards, the Red Wings are also going to make another run at Lord Stanley this year with a chance at back to back titles. For me the only other sport that is harder to go back to back is the NFL, but hockey playoffs still provide some great upsets and no team is safe. No, not even the Wings.

It is pretty easy to look at what it will take for the Red Wings to win again, goal tending and defense. These both have been the focal points of worry by fans and myself. I do however see the wings getting into the swing of things at just the right time. Even before a game the captain Nick Lidstrom said he thought this team was in better shape than at the same time last year.

With Hossa, Franzen, Zetterberg, Daytsuk, and many other offensive threats the Wings will be able to score. The outcome of the game however will largely depend on how the defense plays.

In short, with the coach we have and leaders who have gone through the beards for so many years now the Wings will have more than enough to get a consecutive title. It won't be easy and there will surely be a hot goaltender or two who give them a difficult time. Osgood will step up and show that once again the fans can talk and talk, but he will do it with his play.

Does it ever get old? And to think the Great One gave it away to the Captain

What did I do?

Here is a pretty funny video from awhile back that I just saw. This guy punches his opponent in the gut and then acts like he didn't do anything. Does anybody man up for their mistakes anymore?

UNC Wins it

Photobucket

It wasn't much of a game to start with. UNC just dominated from the beginning. They set a Final Four record scoring 55 points in the first half. Ty Lawson set a tournament record with 8 steals, 7 in the first half. The second half MSU never got closer then 13. UNC won 89-72 to capture their fifth National Title. With MSU having 21 turn overs its almost impossible for any team to over come that and win. Wayne Ellington took the tournament's most outstanding player trophy. It was a good ending for a UNC class that came back to win a championship. It was also a good run for MSU, they just got beaten by a better team today.

Michigan's Time

Photobucket

Tonight is the National Title game and Michigan is excited. Even us U of M fans are excited for the Spartans tonight, and most of us are rooting for them. We root for them because its not just about MSU, its about Michigan. The Final Four has brought a lot of excitement to the area, and win or lose for MSU tonight, it is still a win for the state of Michigan.

I have a feeling if MSU wins tonight I may get a sensation of the chills. Something I never thought I would feel from my rivals in green. So the time is now for MSU, no longer are they playing just for their fan base and alumni, they are playing for every single one of us that has been brought down even just a little in the state of Michigan. GO STATE!!!!!!!!!

Big East Who?

Photobucket

Michigan State did what most ESPN analysts said was the impossible and pulled off a 82-73 upset of supposed powerhouse UConn. It was a great game to watch. It was very physical and I thought the refs did a good job. But the best moment came when MSU's Durral Summers dunked on UConn's Stanley Robinson. It was an awesome in your face dunk. By far I found it to be so far the play of the tournament. Now up next for MSU is UNC. I almost feel like it may be destiny for MSU to win, but the UNC players have so much NBA talent on there team, and most of there players came back this year to do one thing. Win a championship. Its is going to be real tough for State, but you never know in the tournament.

Check the dunk out again, its worth watching over and over.

The Time is Here

Photobucket

Well the Final Four is now set to tip off tomorrow night. The first game will be Michigan State and UConn. Even though I would like to see Michigan State lose because of the blue in me. I do kind of have a soft spot for them right now because of the excitement of them being in the Final Four has brought to the area. I am still torn on who i will be rooting for in that game. The second game of UNC and Villanova I am just rooting for a close game, because UNC has a good chance of running away with that one early. Hopefully both the games tomorrow are classic tournament games that come down to the wire. Should be a good night of basketball.

Go Ahead & Retire

Photobucket

When the Pistons traded for Allen Iverson many people including myself thought that Joe D made another good move. Since the trade we have all been proven wrong. For the Pistons to work as a team the best option is for Iverson to come off the bench. After a few games coming off the bench, this is what Iverson had to say to reporters last night.

“I’m in a position now that I’ve never been in my whole life,” Iverson said. “It’s harder than I thought it would be. With the back injury, I have to sit out at the start, then go in, then sit again. It’s tough to really get going. I take my hat off to the guys who can come off the bench and be effective. It’s tough for me. I’m struggling with it.”
“I’d rather retire before I do this again,” Iverson said. “I can’t be effective playing this way. I’m not used to it. It’s tough for me both mentally and physically. If I’m able to go out there, I should be able to get it done and I can’t right now. It’s my fault. I have to be able to overcome the adversity and do what I have to do. I just have to find a way to get it done. Not being 100 percent makes it harder and you can see that I’m not 100 percent.”

Well the way I see it is. Go ahead and retire then Allen. If your still injured then we don't want you to start. And if the injury is that bad then why did you come back? All I know anymore about Iverson is I don't care. He is a selfish player who only looks out for himself. I really wish things could have worked out for him in Detroit, but he continues to be difficult to deal with wherever he plays. He is not the same 27 year old superstar he used to be. Eventually he needs to understand it takes a team to win.

After these comments hopefully Iverson is done as a Piston. Rumor has it that the Pistons are looking to bring Sheed of the bench too. I hope the Pistons are just tanking the last few games to try and make the draft lottery rather then the playoffs. There is no way the Pistons will win anything this year. They have a better chance of winning the draft lottery then winnings a 1st round playoff series. I know Joe D has big plans for the upcoming summer. With all the cap space the Pistons will have available after this year it shouldn't be long before they return back to a powerhouse in the East again.

Who Knows

Photobucket

No one seems to know where Jay Cutler is going to end up. I would personally love it if he was to get traded here to Detroit. The problem is there are many teams that seem to be in the running to get him. The one team that bugs me is the Redskins. How do they always seem to be in the mix for everyone. They have already loaded up for next year this off season, so i don't understand where they seem to keep finding money. The other teams interested are the Jets, Bucs, Bears, and a long shot Panthers. All the teams have a chance since they all have a decent first round pick, and that may be all it takes to get Cutler. They will probably have to throw in a second round pick too. With the picks them Lions have they could easily get Cutler if there willing to give up the 20th pick and there early second round pick. I really hope the Lions make a good effort going after Cutler, and from what I have heard on the TV and radio lately they are trying to keep themselves in the running. It would be a nice start to the Swartz era to land Cutler, and if the Broncos are actually mad at Cutler for acting the way he has, then there is no better revenge for the Broncos then to send Cutler to the worst NFL team of all time, the Detroit Lions.

Why will UM make it to the Elite Eight next year?

I can give you two very solid reasons, Sims and Harris, but the real reason I believe the basketball program will keep moving forward and not regress is 2009 commit Darrius Morris. He is a 6'3 point guard out of California and rated as the 75th (in that area) player overall by rivals.com. He seems to be very quick and explosive. He also led his team to a State Championship title this year.

With him, 6'10 PF Blake McLimans, 6'8 PF Jordan Morgan, and 6'4 SG Matt Vogrich coming in next year I really see the bench and inside game getting that much better. Add to that Manny Harris who works out as hard as they come to get better in the offseason and Sims not having to do everything down low by himself and this team is going to be great to watch in the tough Big Ten.

Only video of Jordan Morgan I could find

I will predict it right now: Elite Eight in 2010

A Short Break

While we await Tigers opening day, the Final Four, and the Pistons and Red Wings playoffs we have kind of a couple days off from sports. I was recently searching the web when I ran across this picture of Old Tiger Stadium. At first I thought what a beautiful picture it was. Then the more i looked at it the more I realized the picture is really sad. The stadium is now left with just a corner of it standing. That's when it hit me that Tiger Stadium is Detroit.
If you look at it there are many similarities between the two. Both the stadium and the city have been falling apart for years. They both are just a small part of what they used to be. But the biggest thing they share is the need of money to stay alive. If the auto industry(more specifically GM and Chrysler) doesn't get another loan its probably not going to be long before there gone. And if the Stadium doesn't get the 15.5 million it needs to be preserved then its going to be gone soon too. I guess all good things must come to an end at some point, but neither one of these needs to be now. I really wish people not from Michigan could see the way the recession has effected us. Over 11% unemployment rate right now and climbing. There is no work here without the auto industry, it literally drives the city and state.
I guess I get frustrated when these politicians go on TV and say screw the auto industry because it doesn't affect their state. The Pledge of Allegiance says "one nation". Doesn't that mean anything anymore? We as Americans need to help each other out no matter what industry it is. No one should have to lose their job because the company they work for couldn't get some help. Everyone needs help at one point or another. We seem to give everyone else money to stay alive. So why not the auto industry? I'm really not sure why.
All we can do now is hope for the best and prepare for the worst, because I hate saying it but I believe the worst is yet to come.

Welcome to Detroit

Photobucket

The Final Four is now set, and to my relief Blake Griffin will not be a part of it. I must also eat my words a little cause I said MSU wouldn't make it, and they sure proved me wrong. MSU is going to have a tough time beating UConn, but the way they have played lately and the home crowd behind them, I would not be shocked if MSU won it all. The other game is North Carolina versus Villanova. Hopefully a good game, but I think UNC is way too good for a small Villanova team. So even though my predictions have not been right lately I am still going to throw my two cents at this one. I like MSU playing UNC in the national title game and even though I would love to see a championship for the state of Michigan right now, I just think UNC is too good.

Maybe I Overreacted

I was a little upset after watching Michigan lose to Oklahoma the other day and maybe my post had a little bit of anger in it. And for that I apologize. Now tonight I just finished watching Oklahoma blow out Syracuse on there way now to the Elite Eight and what Blake Griffin did at the end hitting his head on the backboard was pretty sweet. I will give the guy some credit cause he is a great college basketball player, but i still dont see him doing anything in the NBA. Anyway I still liked the dunk so i put it on youtube. Check it out.

And the wait begins......

With Michigan out of the tourney most of my attention turns to football and getting hyped up as much as I can over the next eight months or so. Yeah I will be all for the Tigers getting things together if their pitching can somehow manage it, but the King of Kings is Football.

I managed to check out a few new highlights of Tate Forcier from his season that were recently put up, this kid is something. I know it is easy to get hyped up for any freshmen QB coming into a program and having to take it over from day one, but this kid has only kept on building his hype since he arrived early. From what I've heard on boards and coaches he is throwing as accurately as advertised. Hitting WRs right on the button.

Click here to check them out. They are worth it. First highlight is of him leading his team down the field on a fourth quarter drive with only minutes left to win the game. Also search around the site to find out more about the future Heisman, haha!

One thing to keep in mind while watching some of his H.S. highlights is where he is able to place the ball compared with how the defense is playing at the time. He seems to always put the ball in the right position for the WR to either plant their foot and make a move, be protected from a huge hit and catch it, or right on the hands in front of the WR to continue without losing stride. Yes Forcier played in somewhat of a not so great league and has been called a midget by some. If he is able to improve at all and catch up to the speed at which the college game is played, dare I say better than a Henne fresh year? I do, and it will happen.

Already found a screenshot and some heads up on the new Madden game as well from my cousin. It is the same fluff piece before any Madden and it will get you pumped and want it now, let's just hope they get it right. Link here
